Learn To Swim Lessons for Babies & Toddlers
Our outstanding Learn To Swim Baby and Toddler Program has been especially designed to teach water awareness and water safety skills such as kicking, turning, reach and holds, submerging and back floating - all hidden within our playful activities.
The more fun you have in the water with your tots the more likely they are to buy into those “secret” swimming skills you’re teaching! Most littlies are happier having mum or dad in the water with them, that’s why our teachers gently guide both you and your tot in the learn to swim process. Toddlers have boundless energy and their favourite words are “me do myself”, they have their social “L” plates on, are not keen on sharing, love to explore but have no real concept of danger and are indeed our busiest and often most challenging little swimmers! Catering for these busy little people means our program needs to be fun, flexible and fast paced, allowing time for exploration and discovering how to react in water. Which class is right for my child? The following list will guide you through the process. Baby Bubble: I'm approximately 3 to 4 months old. As well as learning to love the water these classes are wonderful for my development as I move more freely in water than on land. All this movement helps strengthen my little body and helps me to learn about my arms and legs and movement. I'll also be learning how to take a breath on cue in preparation for submerging. My mummy and daddy will receive lots of tips in class to help me learn. Baby Bubble extension class: I've completed the Baby Bubble program and am approximately 5 to 6 months old. I learn to take a breath and submerge, hold on to objects in the water and how floating on my back feels. Little Nipper 1: I'm approximately 6 to 12 months old and I can sit and crawl. In my LN1 class I will continue to learn about taking a breath and submerging as well as learning to kick, turnaround and grab the side and other fun activities to help me learn how water works. Little Nipper 2: I'm now a toddler approximately 1 to 2 years old If I can't already do so I will be learning to take a breath go underwater and turnaround and grab the side. I will learn to glide through the water as well as lots of other water safety activities. Little Nipper 3: I'm approximately 2 to 3 years old and can run and jump, I'm very active and becoming independent - I say things like "me do myself". One minute I want mum and dad and the next I want them to let me run free! With motor skills developing I am more capable in the water and will build on my ability to submerge, jump into water, turnaround and grab the side and glide and kick back and forth through the water. Little Nipper 4: I'm now 3 to 4 years old, I can take direction from the teacher and understand when I need to wait, stop and go, I can take turns and am happy to share. Although I lack style and aren't yet very efficient in the water, I can now kick further with my face, competently jump into water and recover to the side. As a Little Nipper 4, I spend much time reinforcing safety skills such as safety turns, treading water, rolling on my back to breathe and kicking back to the side. Beginner: I'm between 3 and 5 years old. I may be a timid child or have had a fright in water or simply had little experience in pools, I might even be frightened of water. I can't swim or jump into deep water or kick back to the side (without floaties.). I am a beginner. My teacher will be kind and gentle and will make learning fun, she or he will never use force. With gentle encouragement and happy time in the water I will soon be swimming like a little fish. We recommend all beginners attend at least two lessons per week to fast track their confidence and safety skills. Rockets: I'm 4 years or older and relaxed in water, I can glide or kick through the water with my face in for a meter or more. I will learn to streamline, use my strong core muscles and long kicking legs as well as developing my breath control, all in preparation for learning my freestyle arms. Having a strong core and fast kick will make it easier for me to learn my freestyle arms. I will continue to build on safety skills and my ability to tread water and swim on my back. If I'm not at school the best classes for me will be Monday to Sunday mornings. If I am at school the best classes for me will be after school or Saturday or Sunday morning. |
