Squads and the Missile Development Program (Stroke Clinic)
Our Missile Development Program offers swimmers the opportunity to develop skills and train in a 25 metre, indoor heated pool all year round. The program caters for swimmers of all ages who aspire to improve their technique and increase fitness and endurance.
The Missile Development Program is an extension of Dipadees learn to swim program. As part of the MDP swimmers will have the opportunity to continue to refine their strokes whilst beginning to focus on speed strength and endurance in the water. The goal of the MDP is to equip swimmers for further swimming as part of a swim club or to ensure that children have the opportunity to remain members of the Dipadees family and enjoy the lifelong fitness and social benefits of swimming. For Missile development times please email us. The value of participating in and developing healthy exercise habits is immeasurable as are the many lifelong friendships made at swimming. Learning to swim gives kids the basics, swimming in our Missile Development Program reinforces all that has gone before and is characterised by a marked improvement in skill and endurance. Our Missile programme runs for one hour, sessions are held Monday to Friday after school. Bookings are necessary. Children will need their own kit bag containing fins and a pull buoy. These are available for sale at our reception. Be sure to clearly mark equipment with their name. |
Each session is designed to work on specific aspects of swimming particularly distance, speed, quality, recovery and strength and conditioning.

Missile Development Program Overview
Swimmers participating in our Missile Development Program are encouraged to swim three times per week for maximum progress and results. This will ensure that they are exposed to a variety of swimming skills as outlined above.
Attending just one session per week will mean they may find their fitness and or skills will not be up to the other children’s and progress is not as fast as those who attend multiple sessions.

Missile Sessions
The scheduling of these sessions is subject to change. This ensures all children are exposed to all facets of our development program. Please see the whiteboard at the pool to confirm session details. Session scheduling will consider upcoming meets and competitions.
Distance sessions primarily focus on building a child’s endurance and are great for fitness, each session covers upwards of 2km and including short rest cycles.
Speed sessions will include longer rest cycles and will focus on swimming shorter distances at speed. These sessions will develop fast muscle groups and will involve different drills focusing on improving speed in the water.
Quality sessions will primarily focus on technique, race pace swimming, race distances and appropriate times for participating in carnivals, club nights and meets. These sessions may include longer rest cycles to allow children to work on improving their PBs (personal best times). The children are given the chance to put their hard work in training into action and practice for competitions.
Recovery sessions give the body a chance to recover midweek while still maintaining fitness and technique. It allows your child to be able to put maximum effort into the other high intensity sessions. If your child is experiencing soreness, tiredness or muscle tightness, they may find this session more beneficial than having a rest day.
Strength and Conditioning sessions include strengthening, conditioning and stretching exercises specific to swimming, within a land based program specially designed by our coach. Land sessions are recommended for those swimmers already attending two squad sessions or more a week. Stretching, flexibility and the ability to control flexibility are an extremely important aspect of swim fitness and will be incorporated into these land based sessions. Sessions may also include sprints, push ups, skipping, boxing, and other fitness drills.
Starts, Turns and Finishes, a specialty class, primarily focuses on dives, push offs, correct turns relating to each stroke and quality finishes at the wall. Our coach will contact you if he feels that one of these sessions would be of benefit to your child.
Correction is king! Correction is king when it comes to building a good solid swimming stroke. You will find our coaches are fussy and they provide lots of correction throughout the session. This will stand the test of time, and create a solid foundation for a strong swimming style, for both future competition and recreational swimming.
