Learn To Swim Lessons for Kindy Kids & Preppies
Not yet big kids, but no longer toddlers, our kindy kids and preppies can be a delight to teach. Their wonderful imagination and great sense of humour provide teachers with plenty of opportunity to make water confidence and learning to swim a most enjoyable experience.
Our aim is to develop good strong foundation skills, but in such a way that your child will love the water and their learn to swim experience. Skills taught in our Kindy Kids and Preppies program range from beginner water confidence and safety skills to the more formal strokes such as freestyle and backstroke. Children are graded by both their physical and emotional maturity as well as by their skill level. Classes are thirty minutes long and have between three and four children per teacher. |

Which is the right class for my child?
Beginner: I'm 3.5 years or older. I may be a timid child or have had a fright in water or simply had little experience in pools, I might even be frightened of water. I can not swim or jump into deep water and kick back to the side (without floaties.). I am a beginner. My teacher will make learning fun and be kind and gentle and will build trust and will never use force. We recommend beginners attend lessons at least twice per week to more quickly build confidence and safety skills. 30 minute lesson. Up to 4 children per class. Safety Kickers: I'm 3.5 years or older. It's time for mummy and daddy to sit back and watch while I learn to swim with my teacher. I am happy to separate from mum or dad and understand when I need to wait, stop and go, I can happily take turns and follow my teacher's directions. I can jump into water, turnaround and kick back to the side without any aids or assistance. As well as building on the distance I can move through the water, I will be working on my kicking and floating skills and continue to reinforce important safety skills such as recovering to safety, treading water and learning how to take a breath. I'm building foundation skills in preparation for learning the more complex swimming skills of freestyle and backstroke. 30 minute lesson. Up to 4 children per class. Rockets: I'm around 4 years or older and relaxed in water, I can glide or kick through the water with my face in for a meter or more. I am learning to streamline, build strong core muscles and long kicking legs as well as developing my breath control, all in preparation for learning my freestyle arms. Just like building strong foundations in a house, learning to Rocket (streamline) is the foundation to becoming a stronger, safer lifelong swimmer. Building a good body position and strengthening my kicking ability will be complimented with the continued development of my safety skills such as treading water. 30 minute lesson. Up to 4 children per class. Arms: I'm around 4 years or older and have mastered my Rockets. I can kick on the surface with my face in for several meters using long legs and fast kicks. I will be learning to move my freestyle arms efficiently in a slow and controlled manner (rather than the common "splash and dash" used by many learners). My kicking skills will continue to improve and I will increase the distance I can kick on my back. 30 minute lesson. Up to 4 children per class. Breathers 1: I'm 5 years or older and can swim with long, controlled freestyle arms. I can easily kick with long, fast legs on a kickboard for at least 12 meters. My teacher will now teach me freestyle breathing and backstroke. Learning to freestyle breathe is not so easy, in-fact many adults tell us they can swim but not breathe. For this reason we break the skill down into three easier steps for the children. Never-the-less, at this level your child might need lots of encouragement. Explain to them that riding a bike wasn't easy at first either, but once they got the hang of it they were off. And so it will be with learning freestyle breathing. The more lessons they can attend at this level the sooner they will master breathing. This is a great level to take advantage of our school holiday intensive programs. 30 minute lesson. Up to 4 children per class. • Lessons for school aged/primary children. More info >
