Learn To Swim Lessons for Big Kids: 7 years and older
Once your child has the ability to freestyle with correct breathing for 25m, backstroke for at least 25m, and can perform a basic breaststroke kick then it's time for the big kids (Super Dipper) program.
The Super Dipper Program is about ensuring all the skills your child has been learning are well reinforced. Like the icing on the cake we "tweak" the strokes and make the finishing touches.
Endurance, strength and style improve as your child covers up to one kilometre per 45 minute session. Super Dippers begin to swim with more ease and become stronger in the water. Once your child has mastered our Super Dipper Program they might like to join our South Pine Swim Squads.
Which class is right for my child?
The following list will guide you through the process.
Breathers 2: I'm 7 years or older and can swim 12 meters with freestyle arms while taking a several correct side breaths. I will start to increase the number of breaths I can take to extend the distance I can swim. My teacher will correct and refine my skill and swim drills will help to build my strength and endurance.
I will enjoy learning Breaststroke and butterfly kick in preparation for moving to our Super Dipper stroke development group. I will also need goggles at this level as I begin to increase the distance I can swim.
Flippers are fun and I'll love using them for some drills. We have caps, flippers and goggles available at our swim school.
Now able to swim a little further, Breathers 2 enjoy our regular race nights.
The best classes for me will be after school or Saturday morning.
Super Dippers: I'm 7 years or older and can now easily and correctly swim 25 meters. I'm strong and capable enough to swim for 45 minutes. I'm refining my Free and Back strokes, building on my Breaststroke and learning Butterfly.
At this level I'm also enjoying the company of my swim mates and some competition within the class and really enjoy the dipadees race nights.
The best classes for me are after school Monday to Friday or Saturday morning.
Missile Squads: I'm at least 8 years or older and a capable swimmer, I can manage a solid hour of swimming and stroke correction. I'm keen to swim for fitness and to improve my times for school and club swimming and strengthen my Freestyle, Backstroke, Butterfly and Backstroke as well as learning rescue skills. As a Missile swimmer I like to swim several times each week and look forward catching up with mys swim friends and attending race nights.
