Our indoor viewing room reno update!
Hopefully it won't be too long now until our indoor viewing room will be finisWhile still some finishing off to go, our pool end amenities are now up and running. Big thank you for your patience while we've been working on these. Our ladies bathroom doors are due to be fitted on Wednesday 28th, so not long now!
The change has allowed for two hot showers in both the male and female ends as well as two toilets each and two basins. A HUGE thank you to Rob for coordinating and working on this project.
A little more about Resultz Gym!
Mat, from Resultz Gym has started the conversion of our old Playland into a boutique gym and is aiming to open in mid August.
We chose Mat because his peak hours are outside of our peak hours, with most of his customers attending before and after work.
If you're a gym fan you might like to take on a fitness program while the kids swim. We'll let you know more, closer to the Resultz Gym opening date.
Have you noticed our My Swim Journey poster?
Be sure to check out our "My Swim Journey" posters when next at the pool. These colourful posters show the different levels the children move through on their journey to becoming a swimmer.
You will also find a series of smaller posters in frames showing the skills the children learn at each level.
Many of the children will have already received electronic certificates or stickers as they move through the levels. If you haven't received any yet please pop an email through to Sarah on [email protected]
Staying Covid safe
Big thank you to everyone for helping us follow Covid rules by waiting outside of the pool area and checking in when you arrive. And of course wearing masks when mandated.
Upgrade to baby change area!
I'm sure our parents with bubs will have noticed we have replaced the paper towel and disinfectant spray with anti bacterial wipes. Rob will also be making upgrades to our baby change tables shortly.
Do you have a child who was swimming nicely, only to find their stroke inexplicably becomes messy?
Physiotherapist Peter Wells sheds some light on what might be happening!
"What happens when a child goes through a growth spurt?
Why is it that some children, who have been swimming along nicely, suddenly lose style and give the impression that they’ve lost touch with their arms and legs. What’s happening to the child to cause this apparent disorganisation in their movements?
This phenomenon is commonly seen in children going through a growth spurt and it’s to do with balance and coordination.
During growth spurts there is a huge hormonal upheaval that the body has to deal with. In growing bodies, the long bones (leg /arms) grow at a faster rate than the soft tissues (muscles, tendons etc). This leads to increases in tightness of the muscles and decreases in coordination as the nervous system tries to adjust to all of these changes. Children often take on a “baby giraffe-like” appearance at this time.
The computer system (brain and nervous system) is re-programming itself for the new lengths, strengths and lever arms in the growing body. If the growth is slow and steady then the brain can cope and keep up with this, but when growth is rapid (as it often is!) then the neural system struggles.
When the growth rate slows or ceases and allows the neural system to catch up, normal coordinated movement is able to return.
It is important during times like these for the teacher, parent and child to be patient. Explain what is happening and reassure the child that it is quite normal and that it will rectify itself given time. This time may be from weeks to months (sometimes even 12 months if rapid growth continues / persists!)
Of course if the teacher or parents have any concerns then consult your qualified health practitioner."
